From David:

“Hi! About four years ago, I was “Discovered” at a Japanese Karaoke bar, by multi-platinum selling, multi-Grammy winning recording artist, NORAH JONES, her sister, the very talented sitarist, ANOUSHKA SHANKAR, and Miss Jones’ bandmember/co-writer DARU ODA. For about a year, Miss Jones strongly urged me to pursue a career, and I finally gave in, diving in head-first, full on, building a loyal online following by headlining weekly shows, first at dive bars and live music venues (SIDEWALK CAFE, ELLA, KENNY’S CASTAWAYS, THE BEAN, HUDSON HOTEL, HUDSON EATERY), but also many Michelin-rated, high-end fine dining eateries all around Manhattan (MONO+MONO, BALLARO, BAR BASSO) pretty much from the start, garnering publicized rave reviews and on-air press from prominent New York music/restaurant critics, recently booking high-profile private parties from not only the NYC elite, but also major fashion companies (Conde’ Nast, Hearst).

During this process, I’ve been extremely honored to have earned the respect and comraderie from most the Jazz community and have had the honor to employ only the best band members, many of whom are successful 2014 Grammy winners and nominees (Chip Crawford, Tivon Pennicot, Stacy Dillard, etc.). I’m told that I’m one of the few young, male jazz singers in the city to actually accomplish this feat.

I’ve developed a knack for starting musical venues at places that don’t typically have music. One of my first gigs was a weekly brunch show at “SIDEWALK CAFE”, on Saturday and Sunday, and getting paid for it. From there, I was employed by the owner of “ELLA” lounge to perform a weekly night there, following the comedian SETH HERZOG’S show. I’ve never played an unpaid show, which is apparently unheard of. Then I came to “MONO+MONO”, a very beautiful high-end, highly rated Korean fried chicken (Bon-Chon) restaurant, but sadly, burned down on 4/20/2013. For two years, I was there every Tuesday night, growing the show until the point where It was really popular, with respected celebrities accepting my invitations. I was honored to play alongside top-notch musicians under my employ. A lot of them are Grammy winners now, as of last year and this year. Now I’m at the point where I want to sell my music to the public and media companies, as well as explore the electronic dance music arena, while I continue to learn more about Jazz.”
